ATTENTION ALL POTENTIAL FANCY CATS AND ALL ARCHEAGE FANCY CATS. IT'S TIME TO MEET OUR GUILD PATRON FROM GUILD WARS 2. ALLOW ME TO INTRODUCE:
Chanuncy Von Snuffles III
Truly the Fanciest Cat*
Technical Background:
Chauncey Von Snuffles III is a character in guild wars 2. He is mentioned occasionally but never appears in the game much, except as a little easter egg in a recent story mission. Guild Wars 2 players were first made aware of him when he became obtainable as a mini pet which a description that states he is "the runner-up in the Divinity’s Reach Fanciest Cat competition." Apparently this "Fancy Cat competition" was actually supposed to be a cut screen or possibly an event in game, but for reasons unknown never made it into the game. Not much is known about Chauncy and this fancy cat compition besides what we know from a few NPC's that reference it, some data mined dialog and whatever tid bits the developers let slip since they just freakin' love Chauncey (but not enough to put him in the game properly...)
His Story:
So one day Chauncey shows up in the city of Divinitiy's Reach (Human racial capital in GW2). While nobody knows exactly where he comes from, he is just so damn fancy that all the people of Divinity's Reach cant help but love him. Everybody loves him and he's just soooooo fancy that they expect him to win first place in the Divinity's Reach Fancy Cat Association's Fancy Cat competition. Alas, somehow the beloved Chauncey placed second! The people cried fowl and rioted and drove the host of the competition, Lord Faren (story NPC) out of the city. Even though he is technically only second, he will forever be first in the hearts of the people of Divinitiy's Reach.
Why We Love Him (and the Fancy Cat Association):
The idea of there being a fancy cat association in the lore of Guild War's 2 is just plain silly. Chauncey Von Snuffles III is a silly name and he has a silly bowler hat and silly tiny spectacles. There's a silly piece of gear obtainable in game that's called the "Third-Place Medal" and reads "Congratulations from the Divinity's Reach Fancy Cat Association! Everyone is fancy in their own way." Everything about Chauncey and the Fancy Cat Association is silly. While we just amused by naming a guild Fancy Cat Association at first, it truly is a fitting name for our silly group and a way to pay homage to the game we originally formed in.
